My Philosophy as a Psychotherapist

Psychotherapy is both a science and an art. The science can be taught & learned more easily than the art, which takes time and experience to master. My more than 45 years of experience has seasoned me as a therapist. I’ve learned to resonate empathically and listen without an agenda in order to help clients tune into their own inner wisdom and develop self-knowledge. The goal is for an improved quality of life as a result of personal growth and integration.

In my years of teaching and practice I have had both theoretical knowledge and practical experience with many therapeutic methods. They all inform my work and I work eclectically because experience has led me to believe that there is no one “magic” approach to the healing process. People respond to different things and each person may need a different approach at various times during their therapeutic journey.

I also know what it’s like to be “the client” – having been one myself. My personal therapy has been an invaluable and largely positive experience. It has helped me attain a measure of maturity and wisdom. It has also enabled me to grasp, at a gut level, what does and doesn’t help during the therapeutic process. Additionally, I have not wanted to practice a type of therapy that I have not had personal therapeutic experience with.
